January 18, 2018 - How to Make This Your Best Year Yet

Living Intentionally: How To Make This Your Best Year Yet was presented by Dorene MacVey, Owner, ithrive31, LLC During. This session explored how to Live Intentionally by setting goals 31 days at a time. Dorene introduced the ithrive31 process and discussed how thriving in your business starts with thriving as a person. The session was a combination of lecture and interactive group discussion. Participants left the session with knowledge of importance of goal setting and a process that can help them as they begin the new year.

December 7, 2017 - NAWBO Iowa Members Holiday Party

The chapter celebrated the season during happy hour at Sam & Gabe's at the Lyon on December 7th. Appetizers, wine, and tap beer were served while members were able to relax and enjoy the atmosphere looking out onto Downtown Des Moines.

November 9, 2017 - Celebration of Excellence Awards Event

The 2017 NAWBO Iowa annual awards celebration was held Thursday, November 9, 2017. Nearly 250 attendees celebrated women business ownership while they enjoyed the beautiful surroundings, a wonderful luncheon, and many significant connections at Glen Oaks Country Club in West Des Moines.

Honorees included Rowena Crosbie of Tero International as the 2017 NAWBO Iowa Hall of Fame Legacy Award Inductee, Mo Collins of Mo Collins, Inc. as the 2017 NAWBO Iowa Advocate of the Year, and Jane Whalen of Midwest Project Partners, An Aureon Company as the 2017 NAWBO Iowa Woman Business Owner of the Year.

This high-energy program was presented by Michelle DeClerck, CMP, Event Design Visionary & President Conference Event Management. This month's program showcased NAWBO Iowa's rich history of honoring women business owners in our community. A handful of award honorees shared their stories, some lessons learned and their issues and challenges still today.

August 17, 2017 - Intellectual Property, What Business Owers Need to Know

Every business has Intellectual Property. Every business needs to actively manage its Intellectual Property. But where do you begin? In this lunch presentation, Jordan Meggison-Decker, Attorney at Law at BrownWinick, discussed "How to Actively Manage Your Intellectual Property" - an area of law in which NAWBO Iowa partner BrownWinick is well versed. Guests learned the differences between a patent, a trademark, a service mark, copyright, and trade secrets. Decker also discussed how to efficiently protect your Intellectual Property and what the process of protecting your Intellectual Property looks like.

July 20, 2017 - 15 Marketing Tips in 30 Minutes

At this lively, interactive event members discovered creative marketing techniques to push business to the forefront with their target audiences. Participants came prepared to be energize and left with tangible marketing takeaways! Leading the conversations were NAWBO Iowa members and marketing professionals Tamara Kenworthy of On Point Strategies, Kris Winter of M2K Marketing Group and Kathryn Towner of WinCommunications.

June 22, 2017 - Your Invisible Toolbox - How Millennials Sparked a National Conversation

NAWBO was pleased to provide 'insights' around the recently released book by Rowena "Ro" Crosbie, president of Tero International, and Deborah "Deb" Rinner, chief learning officer, titled "Your Invisible Toolbox: The Technological Ups & Interpersonal Downs of the Millennial Generation." Ro and Deb have spent nearly eight years perfecting the delivery and content of this book that includes research and insight for any age, not purely the millennial generation. A full room was present to hear key research and findings included in the book while sharing questions and discussion!

May 18, 2017 - Self Defense in The Workplace

Guests at the May meeting learned the top 10 reality based self-defense strategies for safety in your business. Leading the discussion was NAWBO Iowa member Amy Ratekin. Amy and her husband Mark became C.O.B.R.A Self-Defense instructors in December 2014. Takeaways from the May presentation included everyday items for defense, anti-abduction techniques with hands on practice, basic safety strategies, and corporate safety.

April 13, 2017 - Small Business In The Community

On April 13 NAWBO Iowa was joined by a panel from our community and volunteer organizations. They generously shared informatin on how volunteer organizations can add value to the mission of your business. Guest presenters included Mary Gordon from the Young Women's Resource Center, Jill Fulitano Avery from the Iowa Office of Persons with Disability, and Kathy Crooks from Goodwill Industries of Central Iowa.

April 10, 2017 - Public Policy Plugin via ZOOM

On April 10 NAWBO Iowa held the online "plugin party" with conversation about Public Policy and how it relates to women business owners. Online with Public Policy chair Kendra Erkamaa was special guest Jill Lippincott from the Targeted Small Business Program. Participants learned the value of becoming a targeted small business and the system for registering as such. March 16, 2017 - The True Potential of Persons with LBLD

How is your work impacted by persons with Language-Based Learning Disabilities? NAWBO Iowa's Nina Lorimor-Easley shared her knowledge and insight into this unique challenge often unexplained and unnoticed. In March the Central Satellite met to learn how to leverage the strengths of colleagues, staff, or team members who live with LBLD.

Septemer 8, 2016 - How to Recruit and Retain Volunteers

Cynthia D’Amour, leadership strategist and president of People Power Unlimited, presented a workshop on how to help develop a strong volunteer base! Cynthia is the author of several books that have proven to shape individuals into proactive leaders! This event has the enlightened attendees on ways to strengthen an organization as well as heighten the effectiveness of their role as a leaders! This event was open to the public!
